	Playing String instruments From year 3 children have the opportunity to learn to play violins or cellos. These instruments come in small sizes so that any child can learn how to play. As the children grow, so do the instruments!
	Children have lessons once a week with one of our two string peripatetic teachers. On a Thursday lunchtime many of the string players play together in a small orchestra run by our violin peripatetic.
	The orchestra and individual string players also take part in the end of term summer concert to the school and parents.

The Orchestra		When you play in a group like an orchestra you need to listen to all of the other players and watch the conductor very carefully to make sure that you stay in time.

More Orchestra!		In these two sound files you can hear a solo violin playing over an accompaniment of other violins and cellos. Click on the notes on the left to hear the orchestra playing.

		Playing a string instrument. You can learn to play a violin or cello even if you are quite small. The instruments come in various sizes so that they can grow as you do! It is quite hard to learn where the notes are on these instruments because there are no markings to tell you where to put your fingers - you have to listen carefully to the sound you are making and learn them!
