Descant and Tenor Recorder fingering

The pictures on this page show you where to put your fingers to make the notes. The red dots show where to place your fingers. The red dot beside the recorder means you should cover the thumbhole too. If the thumbhole is not coloured in then it should not be covered.

The left hand should always be at the top of the recorder and the right hand at the bottom.

 

  
You should start from the thumb and number the fingers on each hand 1,2,3 and 4 - this will help to know which fingers to use for each note.  
Next to the recorder you will see a note.This shows where the note is written on the stave.  
  The note B   Use the left hand thumb and first finger to play this note.
           
  The note A  

 

 Use the left hand thumb and first two fingers to play this note.

  The note G   Use the left hand thumb and first three fingers to play this note.
           
  The note F   Use the left hand thumb and first three fingers plus the right hand first and third fingers underneath to play this note.
           
  The Note F sharp   Use the left hand thumb and first three fingers plus the right hand second and third fingers underneath to play this note.
           
  The Note E   Use the left hand thumb and first three fingers plus the right hand first and second fingers underneath to play this note.
           
  The note D (low)   Cover all holes except for the very bottom one (6 plus the thumb hole) to play this note.
           
  The note C (low)   All seven holes plus the thumb hole are covered to play this note. The bottom hole should be covered using the right hand little finger.
           
  The note C (High)   Use the left hand second finger and cover the thumb hole to play this note.
           
  The note C sharp   This note is played like an A but with out covering the thumb hole.
           
  The note D (High)   Use the left hand second finger only to play this note - don't cover the thumb hole.
           
  The note B Flat   Use the first and third fingers of the left hand and the thumb to play this note. If it sounds a little out of tune you can add the first finger of the right hand.
           
  The note G Sharp   To play this note use the first two fingers of the left hand and the first two of the right hand - leaving a hole free in between them.
